Dear Mama,
You have a busy day today. I'm pretty sure you're on your way to
Fargo right now for a hair appointment and I'm bummed I won't get to see you,
even for a few minutes. I’m thinking you won’t be writing tonight. I've had a
busy day too but mine has still been pretty relaxed. I woke up to go to 8:30
CrossFit, then stopped at Target quick, went to JL Beers to pick up the cans,
brought them to the aluminum recycling center, came home and finished a couple
assignments, and now I'm blogging before I have to get ready for our work
Christmas party.
I finished editing Jordan and Sam's winter pictures last night.
They turned out really cute, even though we didn't get much time to do them.
They're both pretty photogenic! I kind of guided them on where to sit and how
to pose, and they just snugged in together and made it the CUTEST picture ever!
It was the perfect overcast day too. I wish we would've had time to do some
more or go to another location. Maybe we can do more on a different day. Sam
just stopped by to pick up the disc too. She tried to pay me. Silly Sam. I am
not taking your money now or ever!
One of my creative activism assignments that I just recently finished
was to listen to a TEDx talk and write a poem inspired by the talk. Lily Yeh is
the woman's name, and her talk makes the case that each of us has the power to
change the world for the better if we are able to listen to the voice from our
heart, and have the courage to respond to life's calling. It was pretty
inspiring. Remember how much I used to write poetry when I was in middle school
and high school? Poetry was my way of expressing myself without actually
vocalizing a word. Well, I haven't written a poem since high school, so
this assignment was a little terrifying but also pretty exciting for
me. It took some time to get back in that type of creative zone but in the end,
I think it came out alright. Perhaps you can give me your opinion before I submit?
I've been debating for a while if I should actually post this on the blog, or
if I should just read it to you over the phone and ask for your opinion because
that’s much less judgmental. But, like Lily says, we must have courage! .
That being said, the portion of the talk that inspired my
poem was a really beautiful painting created by Lily and when the photo comes
up, she states that the ocean in its vastness was her subject. So tonight, as I
head off to my work party, I leave you with my poem. Dun, dun, dun. Deep breathe. Right
now she’s untitled, fyi. =)
Calm,
serene, ever-reaching, can you hear what it’s preaching
The
ocean I mean and it’s never before seen
Elegant
green and luscious marine life.
It’s
truly exquisite, creatures so majestic and colors so vivid
An
underwater world so committed who could’ve predicted
That
we could ever know so little about something so enchanting.
Unlike
life on earth the sea isn’t so demoralizing and destructive
It’s
mystiful, powerful, peaceful and seductive
The
incredible always outweighs the torrential through the changing tide.
There’s
a thing or two we could learn from the mesmerizing blue
Just
because it isn’t seen doesn’t mean it isn’t true
And
when waters are stormy we should always take a deep breath and stay still.
It’s
a fascinating world under the ocean
Where
time moves fast but still in slow motion and although there are no humans there
is so much emotion that the beauty of it all radiates up to the sun.
Just
like the water life on land could be stunning
If
we would slow down for a second and try to stop running
We
would realize that facing our battles could actually create peace and
harmony.
So
when you’re feeling unforgiving, cold or different
I
hope you think about the ocean and all of its amazement
And
remember that through the darkness there will always be light.
Darn blog spacing has my poem's format all sorts of goofy. It doesn't normally look like that. Anyway, let me know what you think Mama bear. I'll be sending it on tomorrow morning. Have a good hair appointment!
Most!
Rah
